Which password do you want to change?
Depending who you are, there are different ways to change your various Houghton passwords.

Password Selection Guidelines
Selecting an appropriate and secure password is an important step in the password change process.
Houghton College requires the following password complexity requirements for all accounts:
It can be challenging to choose a password that will be memorable enough that you will not be tempted to write it down (which would compromise the information that that password protects). Some common techniques for choosing a memorable password include using:
Whatever password you choose, please remember that it is a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy to intentionally or unintentionally reveal your password or share the use of your network account.
If you need to remember multiple passwords, it may be helpful to consider using a password safe. This is a piece of software you install on your computer that acts as a secure database for holding all your passwords. You enter a master password to gain access to the safe and then all your other passwords reside within the safe and can be easily looked up or copy and pasted. This way you only have to remember the master password and possibly one or two more to log into the computer. If this option sounds appealing to you, you may wish to consider the following pieces of software: Password Safe and KeePass.
The password change should take effect immediately, unless you are using a Houghton laptop and are off-campus, in which case you may still need to log into your laptop with the old password until the next time you connect directly to the Houghton network. Your email password and SSS password should be changed instantly, however.
Student Self-Service (SSS) uses your Houghton College network account credentials for authentication (logging in.) This means that your SSS password will only be changed if and when you change your network password. They are always the same.
STUDENTS, please refer to #1 above.
EMPLOYEES, please refer to #4 below.
NOTE: If you have a college-owned laptop, the laptop will not know about your password change until you connect your laptop to the Houghton network. Thus, you may still need to log into your laptop with the old password until the next time you connect directly to the Houghton network, at which time you may be prompted to verify your new password again.
