Configuring Outlook with Google Apps

Setting up Outlook with Google Apps

In your browser of choice:
  1. Log-in to your Google Apps account at
    • Username: "
    • Password: your Google Apps password
  2. Click "Settings" in the upper-right corner of the window
  3. Click the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab
  4. Select "Enable IMAP" under IMAP access
  5. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the window

In Windows:
  1. Click "Start -> Control Panel -> Mail"
  2. Click "Show Profiles" and then "Add"
    • For a profile name enter something like "My Profile"

  3. The "Add New e-mail Account" wizard will appear
    • Name: Your first and last name (not your e-mail address)
    • E-mail address: ""
    • Password: Your Google Apps password
    • Check the "Manually Configure Server" box

  4. Click "Next"
  5. Select "Internet e-mail" and click "Next"

  6. Fill out the information in this screen as follows:
    • Account Type: "IMAP"
    • Incoming Mail Server: ""
    • Outgoing mail server: ""
    • Username: ""
    • Password: Your Google Apps password
  7. Click "More Settings"

  8. Click the "Outgoing Server" tab
    • Check the box next to "My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication"
    • Check the box next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"

  9. Click the "Advanced" tab
    • Under "Incoming Server (IMAP)"
      • Port: "993"
      • Encryption type: "SSL"
    • Under "Outgoing server (SMTP)"
      • Port: "587"
      • Encryption type: "TLS"

  10. Click "Next"
  11. Click "Finish"
  12. Exit the Mail box, and launch Outlook. Your newly created account should be under a mailbox labeled "first.last##."
