Can I bring my own Wi-Fi access point or router to campus?
Posted by Jens Hieber on 09 April 2010 10:22 AM

No. Please leave any Wi-Fi access points, and routers home. There have been several occasions where a personal access point or device, configured incorrectly, has disrupted service to a number of students.

Even correctly configured, a personal Wi-Fi access point or router will cause interference with the normal opperations of our Wi-Fi infrastructure, which can cause reduced Wi-Fi performance for you and everyone around you.

We currently have approximately 200 Wi-Fi access points on campus and are continually working to improve our Wi-Fi signal strength and coverage, and we welcome feedback on the Wi-Fi networks. If you experience poor performance or signal, please let us know by contacting the Helpdesk at helpdesk@houghton.edu or by stopping by in person in the basement of the Campus Center.
